CMI and the Ministry of Education signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote multilingual education and social cohesion

On May 29, 2026, CMI – Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation and the Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of Moldova (MEC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding establishing a framework for cooperation to support initiatives in the field of implementing multilingual education and strengthening social cohesion by increasing the participation of national minorities and young people in public life.

Under the Memorandum, the Ministry of Education and Research and CMI will cooperate to implement initiatives aimed at providing expertise for the development of multilingual education, facilitating the exchange of experience and best practices, and promoting dialogue and the effective participation of national minorities and young people in public policy-making processes.

An important element of the cooperation is supporting the work of the National Center for Multilingual Education, established in partnership with the “Ion Creangă” State Pedagogical University in Chișinău, with support from Sweden. The Center will contribute to strengthening professional capacities, developing a digital library of educational resources, and improving expertise and professional networks in the field of multilingual education.

At the same time, as part of the cooperation between the Agency for Interethnic Relations and the CMI, with the support of the European Union, activities will be supported that aim to strengthen intercultural dialogue, promote the inclusive participation of ethnic and linguistic minorities, and encourage the active involvement of young people in public life.

The signing of the Memorandum represents an important step in strengthening cooperation between public institutions and international partners to promote dialogue and social cohesion in the Republic of Moldova.
