Integration of peace education in higher education institutions discussed at university and expert level

On April 2, 2025, CMI – Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation participated in the Consortium meeting of the international project “PeaceEdu – Curriculum reform to promote peace education in Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova”. The event brought together local and international academic experts, representatives of civil society and international organizations to discuss the integration of peace education into university curricula and its role in promoting stability and social cohesion.

At the meeting, Natalia Djandjgava, CMI Country Manager, welcomed the initiative to educate young people on peace and emphasized that education plays a crucial role in building a resilient society, open to embracing cultural and linguistic diversity and managing challenges through dialogue and mutual understanding. She also noted that the CMI will continue to support the activities of the Moldova State University aiming at promoting inclusive and effective governance in the Republic of Moldova as part of the Memorandum of Understanding established between the University and the CMI

During 2 days of April 02-03, at the State University of Moldova and at the State Pedagogical University “Ion Creangă”, the participants discussed the perspectives and directions of implementation of the concept of peace education in national contexts, as well as exchanged best practices in several panel discussions and workshops.

Participants also addressed issues related to dialogue as a means of bridging differences and promoting cohesion in society, analyzed how Moldova’s EU membership aspirations influence its approach to peace and the role of education in peace-building.
