On May 24, 2022, the Parliamentary Working Group on Gagauzia (PWG) convened in official meeting following a series of informal working meetings facilitated by CMI – Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation. The event was held in Chisinau at the premises of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova. The meeting was attended by the representatives of international stakeholders, such as the OSCE, HCNM, Turkish Embassy, US Embassy, EU Delegation, CoE, and UNDP.
During the meeting, the PWG analysed and approved the Report of the Parliamentary Working Group for 2021. The PWG members also discussed and approved the Activity Plan 2022 based on the proposals received by MPs and Gagauzia authorities comprising the issues related to clarification of competencies covering social, economic and environmental spheres, institutional mechanisms and procedures for improved center-autonomy relations, analysis of the 1994 Law on legal special Status of Gagauzia, and others.

The PWG members also agreed to continue working informally to set-up the priorities, analyse the draft laws prepared with the support of CMI Legal Expert Group, as well as to coordinate with the relevant ministries and Gagauzia executive committee and invite for interpellations on different topics outlined among key priorities of the PWG.
The Parliamentary Working Group on Gagauzia is a permanent dialogue platform between the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova and the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia, created in 2015. The goal of the Group is to improve functioning of the Gagauz autonomy in relation to the special status of the ATU Gagauzia as of 1994. The Working Group’s regular meetings are facilitated by CMI-Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation within the Gagauzia Dialogue project funded by Sweden.
