Parliamentary Working Group on Gagauzia determined the priorities for 2023

Today, on February 28, 2023, the joint meeting of the Parliamentary Working Group on Gagauzia (PWG) took place. During the meeting, members of the Group, members of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova and members of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia, together with the PWG Secretariat, with the representatives of the Executive Committee of Gagauzia and the experts from CMI – Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation discussed current topics and the progress achieved.

The MPs established the list of priorities for 2023 and identified the topics to be considered by the CMI legal expert group. The PWG also discussed the Activity Report for 2022 and a number of materials on the group’s internal and external communication for PWG: the communication strategy, the practical communication guide, and the results of the PWG achieved in the course of its 7 years of existance.

During the meeting a report was presented on the working visit of the Secretariat of the Parliament to Comrat that took place in January this year, alongside with the key findings and recommendations. Participants also agreed on the follow-up actions in order to strengthen the relations between the Secretariat of the Parliament and the Secretariat of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia and to share experiences in developing draft laws in order to improve the legislative process.

As a result, the group discussed the next steps and agreed on capacity building activities, set the date of the next meeting and agenda items.

The Working Group is a platform for a continuous dialogue between the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova and the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia, it was established in 2015 and is composed of equal number of legislators from Chisinau and Comrat. Regular meetings of the Working Group are facilitated by the CMI – Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation in the framework of the Project “Gagauzia Dialogue” financed by Sweden. Within the project, CMI provides expertise and good office services to the dialogue process.
