STUDENTS OF THE STATE UNIVERSITY OF COMRAT DISCUSSED THE DIALOGUE PROCESS BETWEEN CHISINAU AND COMRAT

On October 25, 2023, an open discussion on the “Parliamentary Working Group on Gagauzia: achievements and perspectives” was held at Comrat State University. The discussion was organized by CMI – Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation in the framework of the project “Gagauzia Dialogue” and was attended by students of the faculties of law and public administration, master students, and professors.

CMI representatives Steve Young – Country Manager and Natalia Djandjgava – Project Manager spoke to the participants about the dialogue platform between Chisinau and Comrat, the results achieved and the role and work of CMI. The event was opened by the Rector of the University Mr. Serghei Zaharia who invited the students to be inquisitive about the processes taking place in the country and autonomy, to make the most of the knowledge offered by the best experts in the field and briefly presented his experience in being a participant the Parliamentary Working Group.

The participants learned about the project “Gagauzia Dialogue” its functioning and engaged in discussions on topics of interest such as comparative practices in other European autonomies, the activity of the Working Group and its results, as well as other questions that stimulated the curiosity of the participants of the discussion.

Students said that such discussions are very useful because they learn from practical examples. They feel that in this way they can develop their knowledge by accessing information first hand. Discussions were continued in an informal format that stimulated open and frank discussions on matters of interest.

To support this process, the project brings together legislators, experts and stakeholders from Chisinau, Comrat and the rest of the country to find common solutions to common issues related to ATU Gagauzia. The project is implemented by CMI – Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation with the support of Sweden.
