On April 11, 2023, a seminar on “How to increase the effectiveness of the negotiation process” was held. The seminar was attended by members of the Parliamentary Working Group on Gagauzia. Members of Parliament, members of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia, members of the Parliamentary Secretariat and experts of the CMI – Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation. During the seminar, participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with the theory and methods of negotiation, as well as to move from theory to practice during subsequent discussions and group work, reflecting on the process of dialogue between Chisinau and Comrat in the context of the knowledge they acquired.
The participants agreed that the result of all negotiations should be general consensus and in order to reach it, dialogue is needed. Only through communication and dialogue can all disagreements be resolved. They also agreed that the Working Group in its current composition has a good chance of achieving good results.
During the seminar, the participants shared their experiences and methods of negotiation, as well as the problems they face. As a result of the work done, the participants identified common principles on the basis of which the dialogue between Chisinau and Comrat should continue.
The seminar was organized by CMI within the framework of the project “Gagauzia Dialogue” funded by Sweden.
